Crystal Palace vs Chelsea: February 12th 2024

In tonight’s match, Chelsea faces Crystal Palace. Both teams have underperformed, particularly Chelsea despite significant spending. Crystal Palace aims for a mid-table position, while Chelsea struggles with form and injuries.

Monday Night Football sees the battle of two London clubs but both clubs have had disappointing seasons so far. Although Crystal Palace are expected to be lower half of the table, results and performances have not been up to the standards of the Premier League with Roy Hodgson coming over scrutiny.

However, nothing has been as inconsistent as Chelsea this season on the back of spending a billion pounds. There are many issues at Chelsea and one of the factors has been on the pitch.

Chelsea form

Chelsea have lost their last two league games and conceded eight goals across those two games. It is far from convincing from the Blues and rightly sit in 11th place. However, there have been positives to Chelsea’s recent form and they will take solace in the fact they beat Aston Villa at home in an FA Cup replay 3-0.

Mauricio Pochettino has struggled to get any sort of run going with this Chelsea side in the league. Before Christmas and at the start of January, they did manage to record three straight wins but that all came crashing down with defeat to Liverpool and more surprisingly Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Crystal Palace form

Roy Hodgson’s men are at that stage of the season where they can solidify themselves in mid table and not have to worry about relegation; a situation Hodgson is familiar with and one he is a master at. However, a few bad results and Palace could find themselves in a real scrap that they do not want to be in.

Currently coming into this game on the back of a thrashing from Brighton, The Eagles have been in favourable home form, unbeaten in the last three matches, and with the fixture at Selhurst Park they would not be wrong in thinking they could get a victory against Chelsea.

However, Palace are without their main man Michael Olise who is out with a serious hamstring injury.

Who will win?

Come 8pm tonight there will be no more time for talking as the matter will be decided at Selhurst Park. Currently, Chelsea are the favourites with odds of 7/10 and Palace are 33/10 with the draw at 13/5.

For Chelsea to back up the odds predictions they will need Cole Palmer to be firing on all cylinders as he is looking to add to his 10 Premier League goals already this year. For Palmer to score first in this fixture you will get odds of 19/5.

However, with the good form for Palace at home, Odsonne Edouard is the key man for them to get anything against an inconsistent Chelsea. For him to open the scoring you can get odds of 11/2 for him to make it seven for the season in the Premier League.
